Severance

I watched a new series that aired on Apple TV. The series does not have a usual scenario. This difference starts in the name. The name of the series means separation. So what is this separation? We use different accounts and different computers to try to keep your work and private life separate. Here in this series, you get on the elevator when you go to work and go into a life where you forget your personal life. When you leave work, you take the elevator and return to an everyday life where you forget your business life. It is as if we observe a person with multiple personality disorders in the same body. As you can imagine, this company is a giant pharmaceutical company called Lumon Industries with evil plans. The part that makes the series watch is because everything is minimal, and the dialogues are not dull. There is a constant mystery, and this mystery lasts all season. We understand from old computers that Retrofuturism is dominant in the series.

Characters

Mark

Mark is the main character of the series. Unlike other characters, we can see both Innie and Outie sides of Mark. Before taking this job, Mark is a teacher. After the death of his wife, he decides to work in this company. Maybe he thinks he can forget about her.

Helly

Despite being from the Eagan family, Helly agreed to have herself chipped. It seems like an advertisement to attract investors that he accepted the severance and presented it in the invitation we saw in the final episode. Of course, according to Helly’s father, one day, everyone will wear this chip and become Kier’s child. From these words, we can say that he sees himself as a god. Innie people can be managed from a single room.

Harmony Cobel

Harmony is a total workaholic. We see him as a manager in the company, but she is fired for the slightest mistake. Towards the end, Mark’s calling Harmony by his real name at Mark’s sister’s home reveals what the Innies did. I expected Harmony to help Mark, but Harmony’s workaholicism again prevails, and he moves quickly to help the company she was fired from.

Gemma/Ms. Casey

The fact that Mark’s deceased wife is Ms. Casey is a different matter. Ms. Casey was thought to have died in the accident. The company appears to have hired Mark’s wife, Gemma. She lives in the company only with his Innie , never leaving the company. With this character, we see that the character can live without the external.

I think there will be memory erasures in the new season. Because Company employees revolutionized and connected with the Outies . Let’s see how the new season will be, will it be exciting?

Cinematography

Cold colors dominate the series throughout the season. The only place with warm colors is Mark’s sister’s house. The fact that everyone is together is beautifully portrayed. Almost the entire sequence was shot using the center-frame technique. Thus, the integrity of the character increases. Where narrow corridors will make a different excitement, it can trigger those with claustrophobia.
